Shanghai, trains and big feet
We got back from our daytrip to Shanghai at about 11:30 last night. It was mostly a shopping visit - looking for size 12 trainers - but we did get to visit Yu Garden. The crowds were still large but not nearly as claustrophobic as they had been during National Day.
As for the shoes, well, still no luck. The largest size we could find was UK11 and, although they fitted (just), they were the most ugly shoes you have ever seen. If they had been cheap I may have bought them but… they weren”t.
On the way back to Jiaxing we got talking to two Chinese guys. They were pretty funny and certainly made the train ride a little more bearable. As we had bought our tickets at the last minute we didn”t have seats but, as the ride is normally only about an hour, we didn”t think it would be a big deal to stand. However, little did we know we would be on a ridiculously slow train that crawled along, stopped at stations (or anywhere for that matter) for up to an hour (with no explanation) and was packed (beyond) capacity. You have to laugh though because regardless of how busy it gets, they continue to run the catering trolley up and down the length of the train.
