Eat this, it’’s good for your armpits!

The Chinese love food. You name it, they eat it. From pumpkin seeds to duck necks, from bean curd to frog, if it’’s possible to eat it, they will.

Interestingly, what we”re noticing more and more is that the Chinese seem to attribute significant health benefits to pretty much everything they eat. The various types of Chinese tea can apparently heal ulcers and heartburn whilst the vast arrays of dried fruit found in all supermarkets seem to be associated with female fertility.

What’’s interesting is that the health benefits are always very specific. It’’s like it’’s mandatory for Chinese marketing companies to select some body part that their foodstuff can assist. Obviously, many products claim to be good for your heart, lungs and fertility but, as the market has become more and more saturated, new products seem to carry increasingly wacky claims. This is good for your toe hair, this is good for your knees, and this is good for your eyelashes, and so forth.

What’’s funny is that we have actually been refused food in a restaurant because its health benefit was for a body part that Yuki or I didn”t posses. For example, Yuki wanted to try ants only to be told that, “you can”t eat that, it is good for, erm… men” - followed by a downward glance.

I have been stuffing my face with ants ever since.
