Signs

Oh yeah!

I recently came across an article on Yahoo news regarding the seemingly mandatory use of bad English on China’’s bilingual signs. In a nutshell, China wants to fix these embarrassing English translations as part of an image make-over before it hosts the 2008 Olympics.

Oh yeah!

Personally, I think this is awful news. The signs are what make a trip to an otherwise boring “scenic spot” bearable. I actually look forward to shopping so I can read signs like “Happy Criztmas” and “Sail now on”. I love walking around Shanghai and being told to “Mind the slip” or “Beware the pocket pickers”. Beijing, please… reconsider!
