We”re stuck in Yanhshuo until the 13th because CITS, the travel agency that was arranging our bus ticket to Chengdu, messed up. We thought we had secured tickets days ago but today, the day of our departure, we received a note informing us that we were going nowhere. According to the guys and gals at CITS, a large tour group had asked for tickets and, smelling profit, someone (who this someone is was not clearly explained) decided that the foreigners could take a later sitting bus for the 20-hour trip.

However, we reckon there’’s more to it than that. You see, when we first asked about sleeper buses to Chengdu we were quoted prices of around 550RMB. However, when we purchased our sleeper tickets, they only asked for 370RMB. We think that they accidentally sold us the sleeper tickets for the price of the standard sitting tickets and, rather than admit they made a mistake and risk losing money, they made up a half-assed excuse and tried to persuade us to switch the sitting bus leaving the next day. Nevertheless, we told them that we don”t want to leave tomorrow and will instead wait an extra 2 days so that we can go via sleeper bus. They said this was ok so, if they actually follow through their promise and book our tickets, we”ll be heading to Chengdu for 200RMB less than we should have paid. Then again, they might take revenge and put us on a really shitty bus… gulp!
