Thailand - Back in Bangkok

We”re back in Bangkok after 3 weeks of Laos and northern Thailand and, to be honest, we can”t wait to leave this crappy city. It’’s easy to put up with the pollution, the scams and the insane cost of accommodation, but no matter how hard we try, we just can”t ignore the rudeness of the people here. Luckily, once we”ve got our Burma visas and flights sorted, we”re outta here!

On another note, Laos was pretty cool and without doubt the most chilled out place we”ve been. Some places like the capital were dead as can be, but Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang were nice places to hang out for a while. Other than sitting around watching friends (I don”t know why but all the restaurants play it continuously), we got to tube down the Mekong River (picture) and… actually, that’’s pretty much all the activities we did. Like I said, Laos is chilled out. Click here to see a selection of pictures.

After we finished bumming around in Luang Prabang, we took a short flight back to Thailand to a place called Chiang Mai. We were only in the city for a day because we went and did the customary trekking that all visitors, like it or not, end up doing. It was pretty hard going the first day, but on the second day we got to ride elephants, go white water rafting and take an slow bamboo raft down the river.

After Chiang Mai we went to Pai, another sleepy little town where westerners outnumber Thai people - even shop owners are western. Again, not tons to do but we hired a motorbike (sorry mum) and went of into the country side to explore. One place we really wanted to go was a Hot Spring. However, when we arrived, the price had gone from FREE (about 2 years ago) to $10. The most annoying thing is that Thai people only have to pay about $1 - we tried to slip Yuki in but they were having none of it. On a more positive note, our hotel room was fantastic. It was basically a bungalow by the river with, get this, a computer with FREE INTERNET! Check out the pictures
